DOROTHY SPECK TOURNAMENT

Welcome to the 36rd year of the Dorothy Speck Memorial Basketball Tournament.  The Speck Memorial Tournament is the longest running high school girls’ tournament in Northern California and features many of the top teams in the Sacramento and Bay Area. 

The Speck Memorial Tournament originated in March of 1973.  It is a tribute to Dorothy Speck who died of Lou Gehrig’s Disease in 1972 at the age of 52. 

Dorothy Speck, a mother of eight recognized that there was not sufficient funding for girl’s sports at Davis High School and upon her death made her wishes known that she would like donations to be made in her name for the girl’s of Davis High School!  We continue in our 33rd year of honoring Dorothy Speck as one of the pioneers
